EXPERIENCE
Consultant for the Department of State Health Services in Austin, Texas and a dedication of public health for the past 28 years. Ms. Chavez ventures in several businesses and rental properties in the Cameron and Willacy County area. Other employment included Resolution Trust Corporation FDIC and mid 1980’s closure of savings & loans through-out Texas, several accounting firms and the manager of 3 offices of a prestigious law firm. Ms. Chavez has been part of the Rio Grande Valley Empowerment Zone since 1994 and has been on the board of directors as Secretary and Treasurer for the last 10 years.
PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS/CIVIC ACTIVITIES
Other non-profit organizations include President of the Willacy County Kids Coalition, President of the Lyford Athletic Booster Club, Co-Chair of the Organizaciones Unidas of America and member of numerous other organizations where voluntary work is performed. Ms. Chavez is a lifelong resident of Willacy County and currently resides in an underserved community named Sebastian. Volunteerism & mentoring is a big part of Alma Chavez’s life whether it be family or business oriented. The many hours of selfless dedication to all that she does attributes to the continued success in her life.
